Kulima director attends IPCC SREX regional outreach meeting in South Africa

SREXMs Tracy Cull is currently in Centurion, South Africa, for a regional outreach meeting on the IPCC's Special Report on Managing the Risks of Extreme Events and Disasters to Advance Climate Change Adaptation.  The workshop is organised by the IPCC, Government of Norway and South Africa's Department of Environmental Affairs and will be attended by policy-makers and practitioners from eastern and southern Africa.  The purpose of the meeting is to discuss key findings of the report and their implication for disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation in the region.

Kulima director in Malawi to present project proposal to Climate Change Technical Committee

sunset over ShireDr Katharine Vincent is in Malawi this week to finalise the proposal development for the ADAPT-PLAN project, that integrates adaptation into development planning at national and local levels.  The concept has already been approved by the GEF as eligible for Least Developed Countries Fund monies.  Following the various district and national-level consultations undertaken during the PPG phase, the project proposal will be presented to the Climate Change Technical Committee at their 26th meeting on Thursday and Friday.  The finalisation of the project proposal will also require the firming up of intended partnerships and agreements on the co-financing aspects.

Kulima authors finalise inputs to IPCC Working Group 2 report

IPCC LAM4The final draft of the IPCC Working Group 2 (Vulnerability, Impacts and Adaptation) report was submitted on Friday, with inputs from Kulima's directors.  Dr Katharine Vincent has served as a Lead Author on the Rural Areas chapter, and a Contributing Author to the Africa chapter, whilst Ms Tracy Cull has served as a Contributing Author to the Rural Areas chapter.  The draft will now undergo another round of government review prior to being finalised and released in 2014.  Dr Katharine Vincent is also a Lead Author on the Technical Summary for Working Group 2.
