Kulima director supporting gender training for CDKN in Cape Town

Cape Town city centreDr Katharine Vincent is in Cape Town this week to support gender training for the Climate and Development Knowledge Network staff based at SouthSouthNorth. The training is being run by Dr Virginie le Masson from the Overseas Development Institute as part of an overall initiative to improve gender integration in CDKN programming. The focus is on raising awareness of gender and how it affects climate-compatible development (and thus should be intergrated within project design and development); as well as improving gender-sensitivity within the organisation itself, and its policies and procedures.

Kulima directors in Cape Town for FCFA UMFULA inception meeting

Table MountainFollowing last week's formal launch of the Future Climate for Africa programme, this week Dr Katharine Vincent and Ms Tracy Cull are attending the UMFULA project inception meeting in Cape Town. UMFULA is a climate services project with various components. It will improve the availability of high resolution climate information and use that to project water availability based on water models. This process will be informed by user demands for such information. UMFULA will also be looking at decision-making processes and co-producing scenarios of future conditions that can be used in medium and long-term planning in the water and agriculture sectors. Decision-making contexts will be examined at regional and national level, as well as in case studies in the Rufiji basin in Tanzania, and three districts (Nsanje, Chikwawa and Thyolo) in the the lower Shire basin in Malawi.
