This week Katharine Vincent and Willem Colenbrander are participating in the Transformations Community/Earth Systems Governance conference in Johannesburg, which has the theme “Navigating Sustainability Transformations Towards Justice and Equity”.

Together with other colleagues from the Food System Transformation in Southern Africa for One Health (FoSTA-Health) project, they will run one T-Lab and give one spark talk.

The T-Lab is entitled “Navigating power and politics in participatory research” . It will entail a role play session with participants playing the roles of some of the various stakeholders that FoSTA-Health has engaged throughout its food systems mapping exercises. This will be followed by critical reflection and discussion on power dynamics and managing them to enable equitable participation.

The spark talk will give an overview of the food systems mapping exercises that FoSTA-Health has conducted with 19 different stakeholder groups in Malawi, South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia. It will explain of how the process was iterated, and reflect on how it was applied.
