This week Dr Katharine Vincent was in Nairobi for the kick off meeting for new research on gender and pastoralism in conflict-affected African drylands. Three projects have been funded by IDRC for the coming three years to undertake action research with pastoralists to promote gender equality in Nigeria and South Sudan. These projects are a component of the Supporting Pastoralism and Agriculture in Recurrent and Protracted Crises (SPARC) programme.

The meeting brought together representatives of the three teams, from the Centre for Population, Environment and Development, Fulbe Development and Cultural Organisation and Kenyatta University, together with various SPARC staff. The aim was to share plans, identify synergies, and determine opportunities for cross-project impact.
