Dr Katharine Vincent is in Lusaka this week for the inception phase of a training project as part of the second phase of Zambia's Pilot Program for Climate Resilience. The first phase of PPCR focused on the development of a Strategic Program for Climate Resilience, and mainstreaming climate resilience into national level policies and strategies. The second phase of PPCR extends this to mainstreaming climate resilience into local level policies and strategies, and supporting participatory adaptation and canal clearing in the flood-prone Barotse sub-basin of Western Province. In conjunction with a local consultant, Katharine will be training a group of pre-selected Climate Adaptation and Resilience Facilitators, who will then spearhead the process of mainstreaming climate resilience into district Integrated Development Plans and enable tangible adaptation activities within selected communities and wards.
