Kulima director in Panama to co-facilitate workshop on improved science-policy communication

Panama workshopDr Katharine Vincent is in Panama City this week to co-facilitate a workshop on improved science-policy communication. The workshop is the second one to take place under the IDRC-funded project "Integrated Climate Change Modelling and Policy Linkages for Adaptive Planning", implemented by the Climate Systems Analysis Group at the University of Cape TownThe aim of this project is to bridge the knowledge gap between scientists who predict climate and hydrological futures, and policy-makers and planners who need to use this information. The first workshop was technically-oriented, whilst this one brings together water and climate scientists and policy-makers from a variety of Asian and Central and South American countries under the theme "Advancing the application of climate and hydrological information and its translation into policy". The aim is to enhance learning pathways for integrating climate information (current trends and future projections) into water resources management.

Kulima director in Maputo to facilitate stocktaking workshop on climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction

ACCRADr Katharine Vincent is in Maputo this week, working with Save the Children UK to facilitate a stocktaking workshop on climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction activities. As the Mozambique lead for the Africa Climate Change Resilience Alliance (ACCRA), Save the Children UK has been undertaking various awareness raising and capacity building activities around climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction, and promoting their integration in development planning, at both national and sub-national level. They developed a participatory process which government then used to facilitate the production of Local Adaptation Plans, the first of which was produced for Guija district in the flood-prone Gaza province. The workshop brings together government and non-governmental stakeholders to assess progress to date and identify future directions and priorities for climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction activities in Mozambique.

Kulima and DRFN submit Vulnerability and Adaptation chapter for Namibia’s Third National Communication

SossusvleiKulima Integrated Development Solutions and the Desert Research Foundation of Namibia are submitting to the Ministry of Environment and Tourism the Vulnerability and Adaptation Assessment chapter for Namibia's Third National Communication to the UNFCCC. This follows a period of backstopping the Vulnerability and Adaptation Multistakeholder Task Team and facilitating workshops that selected priority sectors, identifid the intended content and structure of the chapter, and consolidated findings through the choosing of indicators and identifying the extent of existing adaptation.
